DEEP INDIGO

DEEP INDIGO

DEEP INDIGO

Suddenly a hole

A rent in the fabric

Beginning to gape

Allowing for tears

I forecast a landslide

An avalanche of grief

Falling through indigo dusk

Uncontainable

“Don’t leave me alone

We need you with us

Can we go back now

To how it was?”

I didn’t hear then

Couldn’t have

Trauma out-screamed it

Euphoria held out

Once for all time

I’d severed the cord

And different tides dragged us

To far-flung horizons

Could I relish your sails

As the breeze lifted mine

And soon we were gone

Branching before the wind?

Could we have known

That fateful discord

Would shatter the dream

In one agonising groan?

   - - - - - - - - - - -

But now I can hear

We have matured

In separate spheres

Differentiated

Twenty years more

Of ocean and stars

You in your ark of salvation

I in my solitary barque

Might we reknow each other

May I meet your child

As your voyage around the world

Greets mine on the other side?
